The EU Policy Framework has changed!

For many years, many UK public authorities have received large amounts of grants for mainstream economic development activity from the European Union regional policy instruments, notably the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund. With the enlargement of the European Union to 27 Member States, this funding has been greatly reduced and the European Union is funding projects which focus on transnational activity involving the exchange of experience and best practice. This new emphasis can be seen in the new EU budget for 2007 – 2013 which focuses largely on growth, innovation competitiveness and sustainable development.
