HyER in Portugal

Written on the 11th June, 2017

Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Electro-Mobility in European Regions (HyER) held its AGM in Torres Vedras, Portugal on 1st. June.  The AGM was preceded by a Workshop on the development of hydrogen fuel cell policy in Portugal.    The development of hydrogen transport applications has been included in the National Planning Framework for  Portugal.  The National Planning Framework is the document that Member States have to submit to the European Commission and outlines the way in which Member States implement the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive.  The inclusion of hydrogen is optional according to the Directive and it is encouraging that the Government of Portugal has included it.  The National Planning Framework was agreed by the Government at the end of May and its publication is now eagerly awaited.  It will be interesting to see the role of municipalities in the Framework.
